Signs for a town that is still being built
A lot of the sign work in a fast-growing town is new: entrance signs for new subdivisions, monuments for new offices and clinics, storefront signs for new shopping centers. Each one needs a Town of Holly Springs sign permit, reviewed by Development Services against Chapter 9 of the Unified Development Ordinance and any Master Sign Plan for the site.
Ground signs take the most planning here. The site plan has to show the landscaping around the sign and the sight distance triangle if it sits near the road, and the posts or base usually count toward the sign's size. We work that out before you approve a design, so the sign you sign off on is the one the Town approves.

Holly Springs sign questions
Do I need a permit for a sign in Holly Springs?
Yes for permanent signs. Holly Springs requires a sign installation permit, reviewed by Development Services against Chapter 9 of the Unified Development Ordinance. Each sign needs its own petition with a site plan or building elevations and a detailed sign drawing. The Town also offers a preliminary consultation before you apply.
Why does the Town need a landscaping plan for my ground sign?
The Holly Springs permit packet asks ground sign applications to show the required landscaping around the sign, and the sight distance triangle if the sign is next to a road. The triangle keeps the sign from blocking drivers at driveways and intersections.
Do the posts or base count toward the sign size?
Usually. The Town's packet notes that a ground sign's supports are generally counted as part of its sign surface area. That can change how big the lettered part can be, so we account for it in the design.
Can I use a sandwich board outside my shop?
Yes, within limits. Holly Springs allows an A-frame or sandwich board up to 6 square feet and 4 feet tall, within 10 feet of your main entrance, during business hours and out of the public right-of-way.
What about grand opening signs?
The Town waives permit fees for grand opening signs, which can stay up for 45 days. Other temporary sign permits are allowed 4 times a year, 21 days each, with 30 days between them.
What areas do you serve?
We're based in North Raleigh and work across the Triangle, including Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Apex, Wake Forest, Holly Springs, Garner, Morrisville and Fuquay-Varina.
