A sign that says something new every day
A regular sign tells people who you are. A message center also tells them what's happening: today's lunch special, Friday's game, a new service time, the price of gas. You change the content from a computer or phone, so the sign stays current without anyone printing a banner or climbing a ladder.
Buying the display is the easy part. The harder parts are fitting it into a sign structure that looks right, getting it through your town's sign rules, and sizing it so a driver can read it in the few seconds they have. That's the work we do: design, permit, build and install, with the display built into a monument or pole sign.
Where a message center fits

In a monument sign
A display set into a stone, brick or stucco base under your name. The usual choice for churches, schools and offices set back from the road.
On a pole or pylon sign
A display under the main cabinet of a tall sign, where drivers on a busy road can read it from a distance.
Price displays
Number-only LED modules for fuel prices and rates. Simpler than a full screen and easy to read at speed.
In place of a letter board
If you still swap plastic letters on a changeable sign, a display can save you the trips outside in the rain.
Choosing a display
- Single color
- Amber, red or white on black. Costs less, reads clearly and suits times, dates, prices and short announcements.
- Full color
- Logos, photos and graphics in any color. Worth it if you plan to show images or match brand colors.
- Pixel spacing
- The distance between LEDs, often called pixel pitch. Tighter spacing looks sharper up close and costs more. A sign read from the road can use wider spacing than one read from the sidewalk.
- Size
- Pick the size from your read distance and what your sign code allows. A display that is too small for the road is money spent on a sign nobody can read.

Digital sign questions
What is the difference between digital signage and an LED message center?
People use the terms loosely. Digital signage often means indoor screens for menus and lobbies. An LED message center is an outdoor display built into a sign, made bright enough for daylight and sealed against weather. This page covers the outdoor kind.
Are electronic signs allowed in Raleigh and nearby towns?
In many places, with conditions. Rules commonly cover how often the message changes, how bright the sign is at night and whether it can scroll or animate, and some zoning districts do not allow them. The rules differ from Raleigh to Cary to Durham, so we check your exact property before design.
How do I update the message?
With the software that comes with the display, from a computer or phone. Most systems let you schedule messages ahead of time and set different content for different hours of the day.
What does a message center cost?
It depends on the display size, single or full color, the pixel spacing and the structure it goes into. The display is often the biggest part of the price. You get a free written quote after we look at your site.
How long does an LED display last?
The LEDs are rated for 50,000 to 100,000 hours, roughly 10 to 15 years of normal use.
What areas do you serve?
We're based in North Raleigh and work across the Triangle, including Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Apex, Wake Forest, Holly Springs, Garner, Morrisville and Fuquay-Varina.
