The right sign for your wall
Building signs cover anything mounted to the outside of a building: lit letters across a sign band, a flat panel beside the entrance, a carved sign under gooseneck lights, or a logo high on a warehouse wall. The right one depends on how far away people will be, whether they need to find you after dark and what the wall is made of.
We start with the building. Brick, stucco, metal panel and concrete each take different anchors, and some walls have no power nearby. Then we work within the code limits on sign area for your frontage and any landlord rules, and show you a mockup sized for the real viewing distance, not just what looks good on a screen.
Size matters more than most people expect. A sign that looks big on a screen can look small from the road, so we size the letters for the distance and speed people will see them from, then check that against what the code allows for your wall.
Kinds of wall signs
Channel letters
Individually lit letters, the most common lit wall sign on shops and offices.

Dimensional letters
Solid letters fixed straight to the facade. Sharp in daylight and less expensive than lit letters.
Light boxes
An aluminum cabinet with a lit face. Affordable, and the face can be swapped when your branding changes.

Carved signs with gooseneck lights
A carved or painted panel lit by lamps on curved arms. A traditional look for restaurants and older buildings.

Building lettering
Letters across a facade or over bay doors, for public buildings, warehouses and service centers.

Corner and multi-wall signs
A sign on each face of a corner building, so you can be seen from both streets.
What decides the size and style
- Viewing distance
- Letters read from a highway need to be far taller than letters read from a parking space. We size for where your customers actually are.
- Frontage and code
- Towns cap total sign area, usually based on the length of your building frontage. We work out your allowance before designing.
- Wall material
- Brick, stucco, EIFS and metal panel each need different anchors, and some need backing added behind them.
- Power
- A lit sign needs a circuit at the wall. If there is none, lighting from outside or an unlit sign may make more sense.
From bare wall to finished sign
Most permanent wall signs need a permit, and many need a landlord sign-off as well. We handle both.

We come out, measure, check sight lines and look up the sign rules for your property, city and HOA.
Design
You get a drawing of the sign on your building or site, with materials, colors and lighting worked out.
Permits
We prepare the site plans and drawings and handle the permit with the City of Raleigh or your town.
Build
The sign is made from commercial-grade materials chosen for North Carolina weather.
Install
Our crew sets foundations, runs electrical for lit signs and leaves the site clean.
Building sign questions
What size should our building sign be?
Big enough to read from where your customers are, and within the sign area your town allows for your frontage. We measure the wall, check the allowance and show you a mockup at true scale.
Do building signs need a permit in Raleigh?
Most permanent wall signs do, and lit signs always need one in Raleigh and nearby towns. Shopping centers usually add their own criteria. We file the permit and send drawings for landlord approval.
Which lighting works best on a wall sign?
Channel letters and light boxes are lit from inside and read best from a distance. Halo lighting gives a softer glow. Gooseneck lights suit carved and painted signs and keep a traditional look.
Can you install on brick, stucco or metal panel?
Yes. Each wall takes its own anchors, and stucco and EIFS walls need extra care so water cannot get in behind the sign. We check the wall on the site visit.
Can you replace or update our old wall sign?
Yes. We can put a new face on an existing cabinet, convert old fluorescent or neon lighting to LED, repaint faded parts, or take the old sign down and install a new one.
What areas do you serve?
We're based in North Raleigh and work across the Triangle, including Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Apex, Wake Forest, Holly Springs, Garner, Morrisville and Fuquay-Varina.
