Two kinds of LED sign
The first kind is a lit sign: channel letters, a light box or a monument with LEDs inside. The message is fixed, and the light makes it readable after dark. The second kind is an electronic display, often called a message center, where the LEDs themselves form the words and pictures. You change it from a computer, so it can say something different every day.
Most businesses need the first kind. A message center earns its cost when you have something new to say often: a church with weekly events, a school, a restaurant with daily specials, a business on a busy road. Plenty of signs combine the two, with a lit name on top and a display below. We'll help you work out which fits and what your town allows.
Lit and electronic signs we build

LED monument signs
A stone, brick or stucco monument with a message display built into it.
Digital signage and message centers
Programmable LED displays for monument and pole signs. Single color for text, full color for graphics.

Illuminated signs
Every sign that lights up your name after dark, from storefront letters to halo-lit logos.

Channel letters
Individual letters with LEDs inside. The most common lit sign in any shopping center.

Light boxes
An aluminum cabinet with an evenly lit face, on a wall, a pole or a monument base.
LED upgrades
Old fluorescent and neon signs converted to LED, so they cost less to run and stop burning out.
Lit sign or message center?
- A lit sign is enough when
- your message is your name and logo, and you mostly need people to find you after dark.
- A message center pays off when
- you have new information often and someone on your team will keep it updated.
- Check the rules first
- Many towns limit electronic displays more than standard lit signs, and some districts do not allow them.
- Or combine them
- A lit name panel with a display below gives you a fixed name and a changing message on one sign.

LED sign questions
Are LED signs cheaper to run than neon?
Yes. LEDs use less power, last longer and need less upkeep than glass neon. LED neon tubing gives you the neon look with those savings.
How long do LED signs last?
The LEDs are rated for 50,000 to 100,000 hours, roughly 10 to 15 years of normal use.
Can you convert my old sign to LED?
Yes. We convert fluorescent light boxes and neon signs to LED, replace dead LEDs and fix broken faces and letters.
Do I need a permit for an LED sign?
Yes. Raleigh and most nearby towns require a sign permit for lit signs, and electronic message displays often come with extra rules on brightness and how often the message changes. We handle the permit.
Who uses LED message centers?
Churches, schools, banks, gas stations and quick-service restaurants use them most, because they have something new to tell people every week or every day.
What areas do you serve?
We're based in North Raleigh and work across the Triangle, including Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Apex, Wake Forest, Holly Springs, Garner, Morrisville and Fuquay-Varina.
