Signs that work from the road to the door
Outdoor signs do different jobs depending on where they sit. A sign at the road gets drivers to slow down and turn in. A sign on the building confirms they're in the right place and shows them which door to use. Some properties need one sign. Most need two or three working together, sized and styled so they clearly belong to the same business.
Exterior signs also face the strictest rules and the roughest conditions. Each town sets limits on size, height, placement and lighting, and shopping centers and HOAs often add their own. Then the sign has to hold up to North Carolina sun, storms and humidity for years. We plan for both, file the permits and install the finished signs ourselves.
Ground signs
Freestanding signs near the road or the entrance.

Monument signs
A low, solid sign at the driveway. The most common choice for offices, churches and medical buildings.

Brick and stone monuments
Masonry bases with panels or letters, built to match the building behind them.

LED monument signs
A monument with a message display built in, for news that changes every week.

Entrance and architectural signs
Plaques on stone walls and pillars and signs that mark the way into a neighborhood or campus.

Pylon and pole signs
Tall signs that put your name above traffic on busy roads.

Post and panel signs
A panel between two posts. Street-level visibility for less than a full monument.
Building signs
Signs mounted on your walls, storefront or canopy.

Channel letter signs
Individual lit letters on the wall or on a raceway. The standard in shopping centers.

Storefront signs
Everything over and around your door that tells people which space is yours.

Cabinet signs
Lit boxes with replaceable faces, on a wall, a pole or a monument base.

Blade and projecting signs
Signs that stick out from the wall so people walking along the sidewalk can see them.

Dimensional letters and logos
Cut or fabricated letters mounted straight to the building, lit or unlit.

Building and wall signs
Panels, carved signs and lettering for the face of your building.

Exterior sign questions
What kind of exterior sign do I need?
It depends on how far your building sits from the road, how fast traffic moves past it, what your landlord or HOA allows and what your town permits. We look at all of that on a site visit and recommend the sign or combination of signs that fits.
Do exterior signs need a permit in Raleigh?
Most permanent exterior signs do, in Raleigh and in the surrounding towns. The rules cover size, height, setback and lighting. We prepare the drawings and handle the permit as part of the job.
How much do exterior signs cost?
A post and panel sign can start around $1,500. A small storefront set of channel letters usually starts at a few thousand dollars. Custom lit stone or brick monuments usually run $5,000 to $25,000 or more. You get a free written quote before any work starts.
How long does an exterior sign take?
Most monument and lit signs take 4 to 8 weeks. Permit review is the part that varies most from town to town.
Can you repair or update the signs we already have?
Yes. We fix damaged parts, refinish faded signs, swap tenant panels, replace broken faces and letters, and convert old lighting to LED.
What areas do you serve?
We're based in North Raleigh and work across the Triangle, including Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Apex, Wake Forest, Holly Springs, Garner, Morrisville and Fuquay-Varina.
