Sign installation in Raleigh, NC

A good sign can still fail if it goes up wrong. We mount, anchor and wire the signs we build, on walls, poles and new foundations across the Triangle.

The last step, and the one everyone sees

Installation is where a sign meets your building. The right anchors depend on what the wall is made of, a ground sign needs a footing sized for its height and the wind it will catch, and a lit sign needs power run to it safely. Get any of that wrong and you end up with a crooked sign, water in the wall or a failed inspection.

Because we design and build the sign ourselves, the install is planned before fabrication starts. We know where the mounting points are, how the wiring will reach the sign and what the permit drawings promised the city. Then our crew puts it up, checks that it's level and secure, and lights it up before we leave.

How an installation is planned

  1. Site check

We look at the wall or ground, where power is, and what is overhead or underground.

  2. Mounting plan

Anchors, brackets or footings are chosen for the surface and the size of the sign.

  3. Permit

The city approves the drawings, including footing and electrical details where needed.

  4. Install

The crew mounts, levels and seals the sign, and connects power for lit signs.

  5. Final check

We test the lighting, clean up the site and line up any inspection the permit calls for.

What goes into a solid installation

The right anchor for the wall
Brick, block, concrete, wood framing, metal panels and glass each take different hardware. Drywall alone cannot hold much weight, so heavier signs need to reach the studs or blocking behind it.
Footings for ground signs
Monuments and pylons sit on concrete footings. In Raleigh, a ground sign taller than 42 inches needs a sealed, engineered footing detail with the permit application.
Power for lit signs
Lit signs need a circuit run to them, often through a raceway or a trench. Raleigh requires an electrical inspection for an illuminated sign on top of the sign permit.
Utilities below ground
Before any digging for a footing, underground lines get located through NC 811 so nobody hits a gas or power line.
Sealing the wall
Every hole drilled into an exterior wall is a place water can get in. Penetrations get sealed so the building stays dry.
